A critical week is looming ahead for the Hastings Prince Edward area.

Over the course of the past week, the Hastings Prince Edward Public Health Unit has recorded a spike of 14 cases of COVID-19. The area will remain as a green zone under the province’s COVID-19 response framework, but the spike is noteworthy with 15 total active cases in the area as of Friday.

Based on the population of the area, the incidence rate is 8.3 cases per 100,000 people. If that surpasses 10, the area may be downgraded to a yellow zone by the province.

Hastings Prince Edward will exceed 10 cases per 100,000 people if there are 17 new cases confirmed over a seven day period.

The health unit, in a release, asked people to reconsider how essential any travel outside the area may be and to consider the risks of doing so.
