The Ontario Government is giving Quinte Health Care a chunk of cash to help in the hiring and training of new nurses.

The $556,270 comes from the Nursing Graduate Guarantee initiative, which was spurred by the need to hire more nurses to deal with backlogs and staffing issues in long term care homes and other acute care settings.

Registered nurses and practical nurses will be able to get linked to full-time employment opportunities, within a year after they register with the Ontario College of Nurses, with the ministry providing employers with 20 weeks of funding for each new hire through the NGG program.

The investment also includes 12 weeks of funding for an incoming nurse to transition to full-time hours and eight weeks of funding to be reinvested into professional development and other training.
